Using Restorative Practices to Build Safe, Connected, and Healthy Communities

Turning Point Partners Tennessee

We envision a safe and peaceful society through the interconnection of powerful individuals, healthy families and communities that are co-existing in an equitable, diverse and just society. Thus we work through Restorative Justice principles and processes, promoting the transformation of individuals, families, communities and systems through modeling, coaching training, education and facilitation.

What They Are Saying

The peacemaking circle that we facilitate in Autumn Ridge apartments provides a safe and supportive environment for residents to connect with one another, share their stories, and build lasting relationships. I have seen this process in action and it works. It now serves as a community building tool in the work that I do, it establishes trust, and engages residents in strengthening our neighborhoods. Turning Point Partners is committed to the work they do and it resonates in the relationships that they have established in Southeast Memphis.

District Attorney Terre Fratesi  receives about 1500 refferals for misbehaving or criminal juveniles from the schools of Memphis City and surrounding Shelby County each year…agrees with Chief Darling that putting troublesome kids out of schools only shirts their troubles elsewhere.

The Mid South Peace and Justice Center has gained significant results from using Turning Point Partners on several important projects with various community partners. Jean Handley’s facilitation skills leave participants feeling both supported and independent. At the 2009 Gandhi-King Conference on Peacemaking, Jean facilitated an innovative working group process where people identified their personal values and came together to create shared value statements. Participants were amazed at all they accomplished in just an hour, never having met before. Jean facilitates Transforming Conflict in our community organizer training, Grassroots Organizing Training for Power. At the end of this session, Jean is repeatedly asked to hold a follow up session for participants to learn and experience more. We look forward to further collaboration and partnership in creating more just-filled communities.

“When we stop paying $70,000 a year for incarceration and enable people to actually contribute to the economy and raise a health family, this adds millions of dollars to the economy. If you change the student’s behavior, it will transfer into their families and communities.”
